Many states have indicated that 2018 is the year that they predict employers will no longer be able to request information regarding salary history. California, Oregon, New York City, Philadelphia and Massachusetts all have enacted or spoke out in support of legislation that would not allow employers to seek out details from prospective employees about salary history.
On January 1, 2018, California Governor Jerry Brown will sign into law, Bill 168 (AB 168) which bans employers from seeking salary history information on job applicants and has a requirement for pay scale requests.
